I ran the St George Marathon.  I was training for sub-three hour marathon.  My PR prior to that had been 3:07:50.  I went out too fast at 6:38 per mile for the first 6+ miles then slowed down some to run the first half in 1:31.  But my quads were shot at the half and the last 12 miles (which is where you're supposed to make up time) was increasingly slower.  I finished 3rd in my age group at 3:06:19, but was disappointed because I believe that I had the speed and the stamina for sub 3 hour, but my quads simply didn't hold up.  Two lessons learned for myself and others that might be running St George in the future.:

1) Training: really work the quads prior to the marathon.

2) Racing: start off slow and easy then push it at the end.

Hey congratulations! Sorry you didn't get sub 3, but that's still a great time. You need to go back and edit this and enter it as a race. Let me know if you don't know how to do that.
